Welcome Welcome to the meeting point for all fans of the Cantones de La Coruña Sergio Vázquez International Athletic March Grand Prix. A test with a long tradition in the world and Spanish calendar, which has been passed by dozens of world and Olympic champions and which is held annually on the first weekend of June.
From the first edition, held in 1986 to the present, we have hosted official international draft competitions and we are currently part of the World Challenge since 2003. In 1996 we organized the I European Cup of Athletic March. In 2002 we hosted the Spanish 50k Championship for men and 20k for women where María Vasco would sign a Spanish record of 20k march with 1h28: 47 and in 2006 the I XXII World Cup of March with great sporting success for the Spanish team. It was one of the editions with the highest level so far, along with that of 2019.
The origin of "Los Cantones" is due to the fact that the test is held in a very specific place in our city, totally flat and with great tourist attraction. With its epicenter in the Plaza de la Concordia and the Obelisk adorning the skies, the test is disputed between Calle Cantón Grande and Cantón Pequeno, which together form the Cantons of La Coruña.
Our city opens the doors each edition to foreign athletes from all over the world and where we welcome them to make them feel at home.
Finally, we must highlight two more key years for our Grand Prix and it is 2005 with the achievement by Francisco Javier Fernández of the Spanish record of 20k march with 1h17: 52 and which still remains in force and 2015 with the achievement of the world record by the Chinese walker Liu Hong with 1h24:38. Nor can we forget our last three editions in which beyond the sporting result: we lived the Spanish victory of Álvaro Martín and the second place of Ainhoa Pinedo in 2017 and the second best Spanish brand in history in men with Diego García Carrera in 2019 with 1h18: 58, we reinvent the way of communicating and spreading our test betting on streaming and promotion on social networks.
With this virtual meeting point, added to all our social networks, we want to show our history and above all, project all the values that we transmit with this sport through the athletes, judges, institutions, Federations, volunteers, journalists and fans who do it possible. The future has come to Los Cantones to reinvent itself and continue to play a fundamental role in Galician, Spanish and world athletics. The March is already part of the history of La Coruña.
Now we want you all to be able to be part of the new story that we will write together.
